For the PhD degree, a comprehensive examination follows the basic core courses.  Following selection of a mentor, PhD students develop a dissertation project and advance to candidacy following successful defense of their dissertation proposal.  The final milestone in the graduate career is the defense of the dissertation, usually occurring in years 4-5 of the student’s graduate training.

The M.S. program in Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine is a 2-year program with a thesis serving as the centerpiece in year 2.
